Lon photography/photographers: JOHNNY CARR PHOTOGRAPHY

The end of the summer saw director & photographer Johnny Carr working on a shoot for Audi, which was a collaborative affair with Peter Saville.

The two of them shot a series of images of the new Audi A5, racing around the waste ground at Battersea Power Station at the dead of night.

Johnny caught the action using a locked-off camera position with time exposures, allowing the A5 to create light trails within frame. The event was filmed for the Audi channel and will be broadcast at the end of October.

Taryn Simon: An American Index of the Hidden and Unfamiliar

This is the first UK exhibition of Taryn Simon's latest project, a culmination of four years extensive research and documentation of the unseen and inaccessible that is hidden beneath the surface of national identity.

Nicholas Hughes: In Darkness Visible

A new body of work that re-examines the traditional symbols and metaphors used in photography to portray the human sense of wonder before nature. In-keeping with the themes of his previous series 'Edge', Hughes seeks to illustrate the frail residue of the contemporary wilderness and our relationship to it.

Lon event/photo events: NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY

Pop Art Portraits [11 Oct - 20 Jan]

This major international exhibition is the first to explore the role and significance of portraiture within Pop Art, one of the most important and popular artistic movements of the twentieth century. Presenting a visual dialogue between American and British Pop, the exhibition focuses on key portraits by leading artists such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Peter Blake and Richard Hamilton.

Pop Art flourished in Britain and the USA during the 1950s and 1960s and was closely connected with the rise of consumer culture. For that reason Pop is usually seen as being concerned with the depiction of objects. Pop Art Portraits takes a different view. It shows how Pop artists reinvigorated and redefined portraiture, creating new kinds of portraits: from those depicting recognisable sitters, to portraits with a hidden or imaginary subject.

The exhibition is divided into six sections, including screenings of Warhol's influential 'Screen Tests' and a secular 'chapel' devoted to portraits of film star Marilyn Monroe.
